The battle for Ice Hockey World Championship 2012 is on and the Finnish lion shows its claws. Undo created the effect for the lion claws cutting through the door. Plenty of different effect layers were needed to get the feeling of the wood just right.
TECH
Realistic door destruction, including the falling paper and debris, were all done with combination of tools in Nuke and Houdini. The door plate was cleaned and the paper was replaced with a digital version.
The whole shot consists of several different layers of destruction. The cracking paint, multiple layers of particles and wood chips, a smoke simulation pass and the shadow created by the actor all contribute to the final effect.
